HISTORY
The school represents the amalgamation of two schools, the Coleridge School and
the Parry School between 1825 and 1852, but were recognized by the colonial
government in 1881 as a secondary grammar school for boys.
Whites and coloured boys of the upper and middle classes were generally the ones
who attended these institutions. The labouring class could scarcely afford the fees
and only a few scholarships were made available to under privileged boys by the
Church and Vestry.
In 1952, the Coleridge School and the Parry School were merged in the interest of
greater efficiency, and the new entity was named – Coleridge & Parry School.
The new school was built on the present site on five acres of flat land bought from
Ashton Hall Plantation.
Among the first students that attended the school were Erskine Sandiford
(Former Prime Minister), Rufus Brome (Anglican Bishop), Ralph Boyce (former
Chief Education Officer) and Calvin Springer (former Governor of the Central Bank
of Barbados).
Since the amalgamation the school has had six (6) principals. The current and first
female Principal is now Ms. Sonja Goodridge.
